The Healthy Brain Clinic

A clearer picture of how your brain is working.

Clinical examination of the brain via quantitative EEG — non-invasive, evidence-based care for cognition, focus, sleep, mood, brain fog, and long-term brain health, grounded in neuroplasticity and brain-network scientific research — located in Geelong Victoria and Camperdown Victoria. Telehealth consultations available online.

Geelong Victoria and Camperdown Victoria Online Australia-wide AHPRA-registered clinician-led

"I founded this practice on a single principle, brain-health care should begin with examination, not assumption. Not a label, not a guess but a clear, evidence-based picture of how your brain is actually functioning and/or where we identify any dysregulation or unusual patterns in the brain, followed by a clinically informed patient plan."

— Dr Ash Connell, Head Clinician (Chiropractor, AHPRA registered)

Why is it important to understand how my brain is working

The most overlooked organ in healthcare.

Cardiologists look at the heart, respiratory physicians look at the lungs. Yet most mental-health and brain-health care is still done without ever looking at the brain itself.

We think that's worth changing.

A qEEG examination is a non-invasive way to see how the brain is working where we can observe the patterns of activity, the rhythms, the regions running quieter or busier than expected, identifying any dysregulation or unusual patterns in the brain, followed by a clinically informed patient plan.

Why people come to us

When your brain is out of balance, it can impact your whole life.

Mood that won't lift. Focus that won't stick. Schoolwork harder than it should be. Tired all day, wired at night. A concussion you never quite came back from. An unbalanced brain is different for everyone — but it's often the underlying neural pathways that are not communicating as they should be.

How it works in detail
How qEEG works

A look at quantitative EEG.

A qEEG measures the brain's electrical rhythms across 19 sites on the scalp, then compares them to a normative database. It's a non-invasive, comfortable recording — no medication, no radiation.

The maps below are illustrative only — they show the kinds of patterns clinicians look at. Real patient maps are never published on this page.

  • Frequency-band analysis — delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma rhythms across the cortex.
  • Coherence and connectivity — how regions of the brain are working together (or not).
  • Network deviations — areas that sit outside the normative range, with severity grading.

Meet the head clinician

Dr Ash Connell (Chiropractor)

I've been in clinical practice since 1997 — twenty-nine years, exploring and delving into what the body and brain are actually telling us.

I came into this work through the sports science pathway. I spent my early years in elite-level Rugby League in Queensland, where I learned that performance and recovery are nervous-system stories long before they are muscular ones. That instinct became the driving force behind my career.

Initially following my father, I trained as a chiropractor, focussing on Tonus Neurological technique and Bowen-based manual therapy. I developed a keen interest in the brain and the nervous system in my search for a deeper understanding of the body-brain connection, and engaged in postgraduate study in functional neurology, achieving certifications in qEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback, biofeedback, and anxiety education.

The Healthy Brain Clinic in Geelong and Camperdown evolved as a vehicle to deliver a service that I am strongly passionate about. The most intriguing thing that I discovered during this process was the ability to see the amazing way that the human brain functions and how neural dysregulation affects people's daily lives. The ongoing observations I have made through clinical practice have fuelled my excitement to expand my work so that I can reach as many people as I can, to assist them on their journey towards greater mental clarity and healthy brain function.

Outside the clinic, I have practised martial arts for forty-five years and have founded Vital Force Aikido in Geelong, Victoria as Head Sensei. Aikido taught me what no textbook could: that the nervous system reveals itself in movement, in breath, and in how a person meets pressure.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need a GP referral?

You don't need a GP referral to book at the clinic. We do strongly encourage staying connected with your GP, and if you'd like us to communicate with your medical team, we're glad to.

Is the assessment covered by Medicare or private health?

Brain-health assessment and neurofeedback aren't covered by Medicare. Some private health funds offer rebates for chiropractic consultations — please check with your fund using the appropriate item code we'll provide on your receipt.

Is qEEG safe?

Yes. qEEG is a passive, non-invasive recording — no medication, no radiation, no electrical stimulation. We simply listen to the brain's electrical rhythms through sensors on the scalp.

What does a typical care plan look like?

Most clients begin with the Brain Map Deep Dive (a single qEEG plus 60-minute clinical review), then move into a structured 10-week or 14-week programme that includes neurofeedback, biofeedback, and reassessment. Plans are personalised to what your brain map shows and what you want to change.

Do I have to come in person, or can I do this online?

qEEG and in-clinic neurofeedback require an in-person visit to one of our clinics. Telehealth consultations, courses, membership, and biofeedback coaching are all available online from anywhere in Australia.

Are you a clinician?

GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists and allied-health clinicians refer to us when qEEG-guided assessment can clarify the picture or inform a non-invasive plan. We'd love to work alongside you.
